Most of the new drivers are not aware of the options that are open to them while using the car insurance policy. However, it is much better to know what the policy entails before making the purchase.
The first page of the car insurance policy is known as the declaration page. It contains information about the vehicles listed, purchaser of the car policy etc. this helps the driver refer to it and calculate the recovered losses in case of an accident. The Declaration page begins with the names of the purchaser, the name of the company and the members and contact details of the purchaser. However, sometimes, there are people who have similar names. In order to avoid such confusion, a policy number is mentioned on the declarations page.
Hence whenever the policyholder refers to the insurer, he uses this number. The number is a combination of digits and alphabets and is unique for each policyholder. In the declaration you can also find the period and term date for the policy. This helps the insurer renew the policy as soon as it expires. It should be kept in mind that any damages occurred to the car after these dates are not entertained by the insurers. Another feature of the declaration is the vehicle description that is being insured by the owner. You will find the model and year of car listed in this section. The age and the VIN number of the car can also be found in vehicle description section. You can find the endorsements offered by your insurer on the declaration page, if any.
Endorsements are optional services that you can buy along with your policy. They help as a quick guide in knowing what the insurer has to offer. You can refer to the coverage and premium section for details about purchased options, premium cost, amount deductible and amount purchased. In the signature section, you will find the signature of the policyholder and the date of purchase. Without these two, the policy does not hold valid.
